Edgar Wood Careers Fair Opens Doors to Future Opportunities
On Monday 3rd March, Edgar Wood Academy welcomed over 40 professionals to their first whole-Academy Careers Fair.
Edgar Wood Academy welcomed representatives from further and higher education and industries including creative and cultural, sport, policing, health, transport, science and technology, teaching, social care, engineering, construction, and services.
Students were able to chat to professionals and learn about a variety of sectors and career pathways along with the range of educational and apprenticeship routes open to them beyond GCSE studies at 16 and even after further education at 18. These interactions are key in supporting students to develop the skills, knowledge and awareness that will help them achieve their aspirations.
The students really enjoyed the event with many coming back after school to make the most of this amazing opportunity, revisit professionals and continue conversations. Professionals were keen to feedback how impressed they were with student behaviour and engagement, commenting that the quality of questions asked was excellent. Edgar Wood Academy and the Trust are extremely proud of how students represented themselves and the Academy throughout the day.
During the afternoon Edgar Wood had the pleasure of welcoming pupils from Bowlee Primary School to attend the event. It was a privilege to have so many polite, engaged and aspirational young people at the Academy! The children were keen to meet professionals and learn about the options and opportunities available with one young person commenting that the best thing about the event was seeing what he could be when he was older and learning that with hard work you can be anything and achieve your dreams.
A big thank you goes out to the amazing professionals who gave their time throughout the day to inspire and support students. Successful events are due to your ongoing commitment and willingness to share your knowledge and experience.
